UNICEF the Netherlands has been working since 2019 with the government of Aruba and local organizations to strengthen the child protection system.
This online magazine is part of the Awareness-raising and Capacity-building Toolkit for the protection of all European and Caribbean Children (ACT4ECC) project, which aims to increase awareness and capacity building of professionals working with and for children. In this way, prevention and early identification of children in need will be improved. The ACT4ECC project is coordinated by UNICEF the Netherlands, and implemented in collaboration with the governments of Aruba and Curaçao, the University of Curaçao, Augeo Academy and the Association of Overseas Countries and Territories. The project is co-funded by the European Union's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme (CERV).
Augeo Foundation believes that children should grow up safely and with love. That is why we work together with professionals, policymakers and volunteers to tackle child abuse and domestic violence as quickly and effectively as possible. If more people see what they can do for a child, we can make a difference for a child’s future. With online training, an online magazine and experiences from the Youth Taskforce we empower professionals.
We organize support for children and their parents and together with municipalities, we conduct research into tackling child abuse in the Netherlands. Augeo Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in the Netherlands that is funded by donations from family assets. We use this independent position to actively implement pioneering improvements and address bottlenecks.
Asertivo, Creando un Sociedad Sigur y Harmonioso is the name of the online magazine on the Codigo di Proteccion in Aruba. Asertivo, (assertive) is the ability of professionals, children, and community must develop to speak up for children in a way that is honest and respectful. Every day, we’re in situations where being assertive can help us. Being assertive is a core communication skill, that can help you express yourself effectively and stand up for your point of view. It can also help you do this while respecting the rights and beliefs of others.
Through this magazine, Asertivo, professionals can share stories, best practices, knowledge, tips, and other relevant information they gather in their daily child protection work with children and parents/caretakers. All with the aim to create a safe and secure environment for children.
This first edition of Asertivo magazine is produced by the Departamento di Mucha y Hoben Aruba (where Codigo di Proteccion is enshrined) in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Social Affairs and the Department of Social Affairs in Aruba, Augeo Foundation and UNICEF the Netherlands, co-funded by the European Union and published by Augeo Foundation.
